Who Is Right?

Cat or Fax?

Cat or Fax?

Recently, our telephone landline would go out of order from time to time. I noticed this particular cat named, Magic (not named after Magic Johnson) would step on the fax or sleep right beside the fax. Sometimes I hear the fax phone turn on and I have to get up and reset. So my thinking is, get rid of the cat! Ok, not that drastic. But the cat can’t rest near the fax. Come to think of it, cat hair may destroy the fax much like what happened to my printer! My wife’s thinking is to move the fax. Well I’m not going to do it coz it ain’t my cat! And the fax was there already before the cat started to rest there. I should get my way right? ROAR!!! 🙂

To A Dog, One Day Can Make A Big Difference

For me, a dog is a dog and yes, pure breeds get more respect. Azkals tend to be neglected and abandoned but they have a right to live too! I was hesitant to have my wife rescue an animal because if that animal doesn’t get adopted, he will end up in my house.

My wife rescued a dog she named Pio because it was found near Pioneer House in Paseo de Roxas. My wife took a picture and the dog looked scared and unhappy. When picture was posted in Facebook, the immediate response of friends was that the dog looked stressed and sad. I didn’t notice that. I just thought that was the natural look of the dog.

Lo and behold, after one day in the vet, my wife took a picture and now Pio looks like a happy camper! I’m just so amazed at the sudden turnaround. With his big smile and wide eyes, Pio is now surprisingly cute! Well I guess dogs can’t hide their feelings. What one day of care can achieve! He is a nice dog and deserves a better life so I hope he gets adopted.

What’s Wrong With This Picture?

Big No-No!

Big No-No!

It’s not the cat per se. I’m not too crazy about cats. But, don’t let the cat hang around the printer area.

I have already replaced a printer because the paper kept on jamming. It was still a very good printer but when the repair shop looked at it, the repair man saw cat hair stuck inside the computer impeding the paper flow. Could it still be saved? Yes I tried but I got tired of continued paper jams. So I bought a new printer and warned my wife of what cat hair can do. She’s in denial but now every time we see a cat on top of a printer or copier/scanner, we carry it and lay it down somewhere else. Shoot! Things I have to put up with . . . 🙂

Is there any printer that is “cat-safe?”

Cat Diaries: Supposed To Be Adopted!

image

These cats are not ours. Ok, they were originally not ours – these are stray kittens that arrived in our house. They were supposed to be up for adoption during the quarterly CARA events but for some reason they were never adopted. So they grew.

And grew . . .

And grew!

Now they are too big to be adopted!

Now that my wife has given them names, they are staying. Oh boy!

That’s how we had reached 20-plus cats and still counting.  Current count: somewhere close to 30.

Don’t worry, they are fed and well-taken cared of. They are caged at night and they play inside the boy’s room all day. Sometimes as we lounge in the room beside, I can here banging of bodies on the door. I pity my door! I don’t want to know what they are doing but all I know is that the furniture there is all worn out from cat scratches. My wife normally doesn’t like to cage animals. Maybe it has to do something with group dynamics. So before you animal activists get pissed at me, these cats are not caged all day, ok?! Besides, these cats rule that room and they never leave. If they leave, they will probably fight with the other cats so it’s best to stay put.

So what are their names? Don’t ask me. They pretty much look alike to me!

My wife hasn’t met a cat she didn’t like. Now I have to tell her that she can’t foster any more cats whenever there is an adoption event coming up. We are fully booked! Actually we still have room but don’t let my wife know coz that’s a topic in a future blog. Shhh….

Talking of adoption, visit the CARA Welfare site on how to adopt a pet. They even list 7 reasons why you should adopt a pet! I’ll add an 8th reason – to help my house get back to normal!

Zoos in Metro Manila

Scouring the web, I chanced upon the following interesting blog posts about the Philippines . . .

There’s a zoo in Pasig?

I always thought that Metro Manila only had two zoos – the Manila Zoo and the Malabon zoo. Comes out that there is another zoo in Pasig called Ark Avilon Zoo.

Ladylaglag has a blog post about it, where apparently there is a tame orang-utan named Jenny. You can take pics beside Jenny!

Manila Zoo needs help

And talking about Manila Zoo, I saw pics from Fiona Macuaig’s blog and our zoo is in serious need of a makeover! It’s depressing!

After some further digging, I found out that Fiona had setup an organisation called Excellence in World Zoos, whose aim is to “instigate change in developing countries zoos and to share best practice from the better zoos in the world being Australia, America and Europe.” She did mention in the post that the Manila Zoo has promise.

The Zoo has some good fundamentals to work with – centrally located, easy to walk around, a good selection of animals but it needs some repair, maintenance and upgrade + better information provided to the vets to ensure best practice of animal husbandry is provided.

I am hoping she gets funding and works to improve our dear Manila Zoo!

What do you do if your dog ate marijuana?

I chanced upon this post about a dog that happened to eat someone’s stash. Here’s the video clip. Needless to say, it isn’t kid-friendly (it has some bad language).

I don’t know about you but I didn’t find this funny. Poor dog must be having a “bad trip.” Fortunately, according to this, “serious long-term health consequences and fatality from marijuana intoxication are extremely rare” but it also adds that “pets that are exposed to marijuana may display anxiety and disorientation, and are prone to ‘bad trips'” – which what the dog above was probably experiencing and that “intoxicated pets may lack the coordination necessary to consume food and water.”

The dog has to be brought to a a vet immediately. According to most websites (like this one), dogs can die if they ingest some weed. So better safe than sorry.
